Good review. Its definitely not a slapstick comedy. Something like Paresh Raawal's "Hera Pheri" would be slapstick.

I would say Peepli is more of a tragi-comedy.

Well, actually I like Karan Johar's melodrama. It seems to make my normal, plebian, non-exciting life seem bearable by comparison.

Its a slap on our face..one tight slap..some people who have always lived in metros might not understand the face of real india. We all are so busy in our greed that we exploit everything around us.It is dark humor. Some people said they were bored watching this movie..ofcourse they would be missing karan johar's melodrama.

"All other characters fit the bill too and looked lively on the screen, be it TV reporter Nandita (Malaika Shenoy) or the local Journalist Rakesh (Nawazuddin). Almost entire cast has theatre background and you should not be amazed by their acting prowess. Such is the bar theatre people have set for themselves on big screen."

Pity this doesn't happen often. Usually we have pretty somethings (miss world/universe/models) and those with a family connection who have never taken acting lessons in their entire lives inflicting their acting talent on viewers and its usually these kind of movies which are commercial successes. I think India is a nation which celebrates mediocrity.

I agree with Aaman. Just saw it a couple of hours ago -- couple of things stood out for me that might warrant a blog post. As far as any concrete changes coming out of it ... I doubt if that will happen.

Sounds like a urbanized depiction of the rural element, designed to make the viewers feel energized and angry as they leave the hall about the state of affairs, yet, unlikely to translate to anything concrete.
