TV Review: Nach Baliye 3 - Disadvantage Rakhi Sawant

Before I get to jotting down my reasons for the above title, I have to say this – yesterday was perhaps my most favorite evening in the history of Indian Television. Not only was I entertained by the dhamakedar Rakhi Sawant but I also thoroughly enjoyed the filmy tadka added by the Partner jodi, Salman Khan and Govinda.

For those who missed the opening episode of Nach Baliye 3, all I have to say is – better look up for the re-run because, believe me, this is going to end up as one heck of a Reality Dance Show.

Compared to the previous two seasons, in my opinion, the jodis are far more talented and even more competitive. With regards to the judges, Vaibhavi Merchant seems to be very professional and David Dhavan reminds me of a cuddly teddy bear, who doesn’t have a single nasty bone in his body. As far as Isha Koppikar, she is the biggest disappointment; neither is she attentive nor is she super hot as apni ex-judge Maliaka Arora Khan.

After watching nearly 120 minutes of the show (Surely Star TV is making loads of money on this baby, did you check out the number of commercials aired!), I have picked my preferred pairs for the season.

Starting but obviously with none other than…..

Jodi No 3, Rakhi Sawant & Abhishek Awasthi:

Now not only do these two dance brilliantly but Rakhi also adds the x-factor. Okay, so maybe not the x-factor but most definitely the f-factor aka. fun factor with her exaggerated facial expressions, loud shrieks, over -the-top dhasu dialogues and very convincing praises for fellow contestants. Sometimes I wonder how she manages it all; I mean it’s freaking next to impossible to express all kinds of emotions that too within a gap of few seconds. But then that’s Rakhi Sawant for us, always doing the un-expected.

But sometimes, your own talent can become the reason for your fall. Rakhi and her beau are by far the most popular couple on the show and their popularity is equally matched with their dancing skills and my friends, this is what worries me the most when I think about Jodi No. 3.

In yesterday’s episode, I felt the judges went a little too far in being critical, especially choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. Plus actress Isha Koppikar (in fewer words) asked apni Rakhi to shut her trap or else she would deduct her points. Since everyone knows that Rakhi and Abhishek are professional dancers, the judges are more likely to be harsh towards while being partial towards other couples.

But what truly ticked me off was the way all the three judges reacted towards Jodi No. 8, Kashmira Shah and Krushna Abhishek. And without me being bitchy here, let me tell you, these guys so did not deserve such high praises and most definitely not the perfect score of 30 marks. Their stint was just about OK, and that’s about it. It was very filmy, very dull and Krushna’s facial expressions only made him look extremely horny. I guess being popular actor Govinda’s (who also happens to be Judge David Dhawan’s best buddy) nephew does have some perks.

Even with such extreme partiality, Rakhi, Babes, you don’t worry – me and my gang of gundies will support you all through the way.

Jodi No. 1, Shweta Keswani and Alex O’ Neil:

Being a gora who swings to Bollywood songs can seriously make you the butt of many crude jokes, however I thought Alex did an excellent job swaying to Bhangra beats and never missing a word or a tune. And this is good enough for me to place them in my list of favorites.

Jodi No. 6, Karan Grover and Kavita Kaushik:

I picked this couple only because of Kavita Kaushik, who is not only an excellent comedian but yesterday also proved to be very good at doing the jhatkas-n-matkas. Hopefully her partner will be able to pick up his act before it’s all too late.

And last but not the least,

Jodi No. 4, Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kapoor:

Okay, now don’t look shocked-n-all. I have decided to go with this pair simply out of good will or more like charity case. I mean come on; at 55 one cannot really expect much and especially from someone like Shakti Kapoor. But our ‘Lolita’ man has shown some courage – seriously it’s not easy to prance around the dancing floor like a dog infested with fleas. So yeah, here’s wishing them all the very best.

And now I shall end my post the same old boring way by asking the most predictable question – who is your favorite jodi in this season’s Nach Baliye.

Haven't been able to figure the timings in Egypt yet. (simple 3.5 hr time difference calculation) did not work.

I caught the last 2 jodis on Sunday, but wasn't very impressed. Will have to watch all the other crap on star plus next friday noon/evening to catch the next episode I guess :(
