If you can, cook some meals at the weekend if you have some time, or cook two meals at once and freeze the second. This helps not just in time saving during your busy week but freees you from the personal hell when children ask whats to eat?

Mansi- I agree with small squirrel- I am one of those pragmatists who wears her flats most of the time. But I do have a pair of 3 inch heels that improves my posture like crazy. Of course, owing to my child birth weight, I do not wear them frequently, as I know it can cause tendon tension. However, they do firm up the calves and straighten my spine!

Mansi:

"my only problem with them wearing heels is when some of them do it to appease, attract, or fit in despite being in pain."

fair! i too have major problems with"

1. men who dye their grey hair so black that it looks as if they are wearing helmets. plus the dye they use, does major damage to the lungs thru prolonged appliction.

2. men who pretend they are not bald by letting the few strands they have, really long, to stick it on their bald patch, thus creating the appearance of what they call in Japan a "bar-code man" strands of hair stuck on a bald pate, ready to be scanned.

3. short-men with high-heeled shoes, combined with really tight pants - en route to auto-castration...

Mansi:

"I just happen to use a platform from where to voice my take."

yep, "platform" for the heeled!

temporal... HAHAHHAH! no I never wear heels on a plane, esp in the loo. HAHHAHAH

mansi... it's fine. I think many women DO bow to societal pressure. I am much more worried about body image issues in the form of weight and skin color than I am about high heels. :) you have brought about a discussion, and you are doing it gracefully. what more could one ask.

ledzius... clearly mansi is not a "feminazi" whatever the hell that is. I think it is pretty ridiculous that you would label someone who is merely stating a viewpoint and listening and understanding what others have to say. which is a damned sight better than you are doing, no? and for the record, I am a FEMINIST.

commonsense and smallsquirrel, Thank you for your insights. You make a compelling case in showing the irony of my expressed viewpoint. I am all for women having a voice and choosing to do what they please; my only problem with them wearing heels is when some of them do it to appease, attract, or fit in despite being in pain.

Ledzius: I'm no feminazi. I question what I perceive as social pressures and I appreciate the discussions that help me gain a new perspective and become more tolerant of others' choices. Everyone has their own take on what "being a woman" or "being a man" is. I just happen to use a platform from where to voice my take.

#22- Feminazis have a problem with anything that women do, even if the latter enjoy it. In fact, the fact that they enjoy it doesn't go well with their ideology. So their strategy is to brainwash and confuse most normal women and make them hate what they had loved doing all along.

In their books, a woman who just enjoys being a woman and behaving like one is supposed to be a subservient slave to men with no mind of her own.

common, I agree. I am not brainwashed. anyone who knows me knows that I do not give a flying fuck what others think of me... in general. sure, at work I have a reputation to defend, and that reputation stands, whether I wear heels or birkenstocks.

there is no complex sociological underpinning for my love of shoes and handbags. likely there is not one for many women. sure, some women torture themselves, and you know what... they are really stupid! there are comfortable shoes out there in every style. and nothing looks more ridiculous than a woman who cannot walk in heels teetering about looking like a penguin on toothpicks. but for those of us who can glide around gracefully on 3 inches and feel fabulous doing it, what is the problem? and for those hell-bent on only impressing others to the detriment of their podiatric needs, well, I am sure they compromise themselves in much more important and much more detrimental psycho-social ways.

mansi,

my point: it is patronizing to assume that all women cannot simply think for themselves and are driven to do what they do (such as wearing high heels etc.) simply because of forces/voices outside their brains.

(see SS's reasons for wearing heels).

of course you have an opinion on this issue. great. but if you air these opinions in public, others air different opinions too :) aka blog...

and yes, heels may be uncomfortable for some, but quite comfortable for others.

the issue of why we wear this or that or reject this or that, is obviously comlex (2+2=4). unless you survey every wearer of high heels, you cannot categorically state that they are doing it simply because they are dumb, brainless pawns in the please-a-man-today game. Do you see the irony in ostensibly standing up for women and then denying them any agency to act for themselves :)

I wear them because I LIKE them. I like the way they look, I like the design, I like how I feel when I wear them. I feel sexy, I look sexy. I do not care at all what others think. now since my feet have changed, I cannot walk as long in them so I generally won't wear them through a whole work day. but I will wear them to a party because they match my outfit and make me look and feel fantastic! if they actually pain me, I do not wear them.

I know it is hard for some to understand, but many women are actually comfortable in heels.

commonsense: And sometimes the obvious complications need to be discussed :-) It may seem too black and white but that's because it's my opinion. That's why engagement and conversations help.

Thongs used to be trashy, now they are mainstream. There are a lot of complaints against the buttockular discomfort caused by thongs.

The only reason women wear thongs is to bait some poor male bakara! Since I don't fall hook, line and sinker for these gimmicks, I don't mind staring !

High-heels, thongs etc are either fish bait for attracting partners or just plain narcissm. In case of thongs, one has to be contortionist to be a narcissist!

while some points made in the article are obviously true, it comes across as too pat, too black and white! it is extremly hard to clearly differentiate between:

1. pleasure and pain when it comes to fashion (or even sex for that matter)

2. between what we do because we really want to do it or because "society", men or women want us to do it...

hence, this article occupies the "nether-land" of not being quite untrue, yet...as in, life is complicated, complex and contradictory :) (sometimes the obvious needs to be enunciated)

smallsquirrel: You still did not answer the all important "Why" -- Why did you choose to wear heels? Especially since I strongly suspect that the improving the posture part was a side-effect you hadn't anticipated prior to trying them on (also I'm curious if all the flat-soled women out there are ruining their posture by sporting....err...flat soles). And you say you don't wear stilettos unless you're at a party -- why? Why wear stilettos to a party?
I'm genuinely intrigued by the idea of giving in to socio-cultural norms that seem absolutely illogical ... hence digging in and asking the "why?"
