India awoke to an unending wave of terror in its financial capital Mumbai while Mumbaikars continued to live in a city under siege through the night.

Unknown numbers of terrorists attacked multiple landmarks in Mumbai late Wednesday night, Over 100 people are reported dead, and the latest updates are that there is a hostage situation at the Taj Mahal Hotel, where the iconic dome was on fire. Five terrorists are holding at least 30-35 hostages at the Taj Intercontinental Hotel currently. Many of these may be American and British tourists. NSG Commandos have reportedly entered from the rear of the hotel. Barricades have been erected around the hotel. A wedding was underway at the hotel, and people were banging on room windows, with at

An additional hostage situation is underway at Nariman House in Colaba, which is mostly occupied by Israeli and Jewish families. The entire building has been taken hostage by the terrorists, with indiscriminate firing. A rescue operation is on and details are awaited.

the govts hands are tied.. the same liberals who complain the govt is not doing anything would be the first ones to scream that muslims are being targeted unfairly and getting questioned by the police.

you cannot have the first without the second..

As long as secularists who practice pseudo secularism and politicians who will do anything to garner vote banks from minorities, nothing will happen. Nothing can happen.
This is the order of the day, week and life.

There have been over 100 terrorist attacks on various cities of India in the last 6 months, not a week has passed by with any such news hitting the headlines, and it comes and goes. We all are used to it. No one cares.

My heart goes out to the 3 police officials who were killed namely Hemant Karkare, Vijay Kaslekar and Ashok Kamte- who all died on duty.

And Mumbaikars are in such a helpless situation, that in a day or so, everyone will go back to routine, no time to ponder, no time to mourn, there is no time for anything. Even if they want to remember the dead, help and do something, there is calling from the work, the grind and everyday is a risk.

Whether it is travelling by trains, buses, chatting in cafes , be it anywhere....everything and everyone and anyone is under attack.

Mumbai celebrates apathy as its greatest virtue. You could have a riot, robbery or rape taking place in front of people and people would not want to be bothered with it as they might get late to work or home or whatever. Nothing would move a Mumbaikar, no sight would unnerve mumbaikar, no would be tragedy too great - mumbaikar would prefer to go about his/her way as if nothing has happened. Whenever trejedy or terror strike Mumbai, politicians and pandits predictably call upon this spirit of apathy to brush aside the events and go on with the daily life as if nothing has happened - they dread people demanding action, holding somebody accountable, resolving to fight terror. Soon the dreadful events will be forgotten as if nothing had happened until next terror event, when the cycle would be repeated all over again. Nope. Each terrorist event can not create a national resolve to fight or prevent terrorism - best we can hope is to look the other way and not let terroism bother our daily rituals.

Chandra,

There seems to be no leadership in countering these militants.......

At least call them terrorists, Chandra; they have stricken terror in the hearts of Indians (not to mention many others) time and time again.

I looked through the updates on Israeli media, (Arutz Sheva, Jerusalem Post, Yediot AHronot), to see what I could find. They concentrate mostly on the situation at the Nariman House, owned by the Haba"d, where four terrorists holed in the buildng are being fought by Indian commandos, and where several Jewish/Israeli families appear to be held hostage. Reports speculate that a woman, child and cook were seen leaving the building in safety, but this is not confirmed.

Other reports talk of a police and paramilitary operation at the Oberoi Hotel, where lots of foreigners apparently stay.

Yeshiva World News has an hour by hour rundown of events, with the last update at 01:23 EST (New York), about an hour ago. Thre last two comments of the forty at the news story appear to provide updates as well....

May the hostages held go free, may the wounded be healed and experience full recoveries, may the mourners be comforted, may blood of the dead be avenged; may the terrorists be captured, and if they are not, may they face the Bar of Justice of the Eternal.

What can one expect out of the brainless headless eunuchs in Parliament....

The media savvy extortionist Indian police has also shown what its leadership is made up of.

Three top police officials going together for bird watching.

Police are the real terrorists in India. Once in a while, they come face to face with their own kind.

See comment no.2 at http://desicritics.org/2008/11/27/003254.php

You can't get away by blaming a government or the so called leadership which is non-existant anyway, one has to get his hands dirty if he even wants to think about a better tomorrow... how many of us are ready for hard action?, starting NOW, TODAY?. Let us do something which we can start doing rigth now, r u all game for this?.

Lets discuss how we as a community can make a difference and stop blaming others for our miseries, lets take control and ownership of our own situations. Shall we?... starting now?

This in from Yeshiva World News

MDA (Magen David Adom) Team Leaving for Mumbai

10:20AM IL: There are six hostages being held in the Chabad House in Mumbai. It is difficult to understand what is taking place as Mumbai security officials continue to speak of a commando operation but this does not seem to be taking place. MDA Emergency Medical Service officials report they are dispatching a medical team to Mumbai. Details to follow as they become available. (Yechiel Spira - YWN Israel)

Yediot AHronot reports that, Indian Police say that Hostage situation ends at Mumbai Taj Hotel. This was as of 10:53 Israel Time. They add that people are still being held hostage at the Trident/Oberoi Hotel, and it remains a sensitive situation...

Israel National News (Arutz Sheva) reports the 'Beginning of End' at Nariman House. This report was submitted to the Israeli news service at 14:01 Israel Time, probably 16:31 Mombay Time.

From the story:

Hundreds of commandos have surrounded the building and have already killed one terrorist, but five others are still believed to be hiding in the building. Unconfirmed reports said that another terrorist at the nearby Taj Mahal Hotel may have been caught alive.

Chabad-Lubavitch emissary Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka were both reported unconscious, as were several of the Israelis, according to a babysitter who managed to escape and called the family shortly after the siege began. The Foreign Ministry reported that between 10 and 15 Israelis believed to be in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, have not been reached and their whereabouts and condition are still unknown.

Local police previously secured the release of the couple's one and a half-year-old son Moshe, but both parents were still being held captive.

Additionally, Arutz Sheva reported that "it is also estimated that there are still between 45 to 50 hostages being held by the terrorists at the Taj Mahal Hotel. Five terrorists were reported dead and 14 police officers were killed as well in the exchange of gunfire at the hotel, where thick black smoke billowed from the windows on the upper floors."

This contradicts previous indications that the Taj Hotel had been cleared of terrorists. According to the report, 200 odd hostages remain at the Trident/Oberoi Hotel.

Apparently, there are new developments, at least around the Oberoi Hotel. At an update at 18:11, just a few minutes ago, Arutz Sheva reports a barrage of gunfire outside the Oberoi Hotel, near the Haba"d House. Originally, the headline talked of the terrorists'offer to negotiate for the lives of the Jews held there.

If and when the Nariman House is freed of terrorist control, the focus of reporting here will shift to other Israeli hostages, if there are any, and if not, away from the situation at the Oberoi and Taj Mahal Hotels.

As usual there is a full plate of events to report on here, what with a pending indictment of a prime minister, a pending eviction of Jews from their homes near Hebron, etc., etc., etc. I'll have to shif to other saources to get good data. Just a heads up in advance, Aaman.

Looks like Nariman House is free of hostages, but one cannot tell really.

A friend lives across and saw five neighbors gunned down. His own cars were blasted in the nearby attack on the BP Petrol Bunk. His wife, pregnant, was fortunately at her parents in Calcutta. He was locked in his bathroom till this morning when he was rescued by the army/police. He is now in the suburbs and says he has left the "hell city on earth"

This is old news, a "news flash" from 18:30 or so from Arutz ShevaIndian Commandos clearing the Living and the Dead from Hotels. The most recent "newsflash" from Arutz Sheva deals with Shim'on Peres saying that this attack on Mumbai is a "warning".

If this is the pattern of the stories, then the stage of this siege where the terrorists have real power may be coming to an end and the mop up may be beginning. In other words we're moving, at least in Israel, from news to spin by politicians.

Well, it looks like the mop up is beginning. According to Arutz Sheva, the Taj Mahal Hotel is under control and the Oberoi Hotel is on fire due to the fighting. Almost sounds like an episode from "24". I suspect the Israeli media will shift its attention away from this story, since No Israelis are left in Haba"d House. Attention will now turn to those Israelis the consulate has not been able to contact whom have not left the Haba"d House. Once those have been secured, it is likely that the Oberoi Hotel will have been secured also.

But there are always loose ends in stories like this....

Upate from AajTak:
Azam Amir 21 year old young man who was captured while leashing his terrorist act in central Mumbai. While interrogating he has confessed he is a resident from our neighboring country Pakistan. He's disclosed the name of his fellow jihadis : Abu Ali, Omar Ali, Abdul Rahman Shoaib, Umeir, Abu, Ismail Omar, Fahad Ali....

How can a 21 year old be called a terrorist? What went wrong with him that compelled him to do this? Only to be called a Jihadi and achieve Heaven?

You are very correct SAM. I think we must get to the root of the problem. Which MXXX FXXXX is brain washing these kids, for what purpose. What makes these kids terrorists? constant bombardment with wrong theories? Poverty?? Unemployment?? or Terrorism (may be a victom in the past)

#GB, don't sympathize with 21 yr Azam who can hijack a skoda, attack a foreign country, kill people, learn to fight in marine warfare, use GPS technology, fire advanced guns and handle ammunition.

People who belong to Pakistan and Muslim parents who give birth to infidels like Azam, such a country is a shame to humanity. Shame to the Islam and prophet himself whose verses they quote to fight the war against innocents! DO we need such a religion where infidels ideas flourish!

Dear IM first let me tell you I am Not a Muslim. But your words are not better than those terrorists? How can you blame a entire religion like that?
Just to remind you tha man behind Pokhran Nuclear tests was a Muslim. A Muslim named Abdul Hameed was given the Highest military honour "Param Vir Chakra". The list continues..
This is not the way to express your anger!
