Very good question, AJ. Which leads to more questions:

Why did they howl at Iraq and not at Comoros?

If they did howl at Iraq, then what difference have they made?

If they have made a difference with Iraq, then why do they think that that difference is worthwhile for Comoros?

Principles are dangerous things, they tend to throw up rather strange chasms which people fall into :)

So this step was carried out without UN blessings. How many of the howlers at the Iraq war out there are howling equally at this imperialistic step? Speak up, guys, I cannot hear you loud and clear

Does it make a difference if they did or did not? And why should the same "howlers" speak out?

Ps. I did not know about this issue until I read this post so I cannot claim to know about it or have an opinion on it yet

Quite, I would presume that the central authorities would term the Anjouan elections illegal and fixed, no? I would be very surprised if they said otherwise....

Dear Sir,

Your facts are not entirely correct. What makes your comparison not particularly apt is that Anjouan did not officially secede from the Federal Republic of the Comoros; rather Col. Bacar held an illegal, and possibly fixed election, and declared himself president. So it is not the case of a body of people declaring themselves independent of a system of governance, as much as it is a tyrant attempting to make an autonomous island his own personal playground. I refer you to the AP, BBC, and Reuters articles on Anjouan and Colonel Mohammed Bacar.
