Poetry: doodh-patti and pakoRas

what are late sundays
without newspapers
and steaming doodh-patti?

yesterday had difficulty
opening the door
(it is not easy pushing
two feet of snow away)

donning snow shoes
parka and gloves
shoveled the entrance
path, side walk
and driveway
with help from son

the air was crisp
snow settled on
climbing ivy and cedar hedges
looked post-card perfect
the whole world bathed
in pure powdery white

and all the while i was outside
i kept thinking of doodh-patti
…………………and pakoRas

nary a thought of bali
global warming, kyoto
nor of darfur, iraq, iran
afghanistan, neoconzix
………………….cheney, bush,
israel, occupation, palestine
occupying khakistocracy
musharraf, election, boycott

just doodh-patti and pakoRas

Woweeee! Look at all that snow. Quite a storm you guys have been having. I used to love chocolate milk during winter season back in Milwaukee:)

Looks a lot like Minnesota, there, Temporal...

Just make sure the gas don't freeze on you. After the snow comes the cold, those Siberian cold fronts with the minus thirty and minus forty temps. And you're father north than I used to was...

If you keep the heater going properly, you'll have plenty of heat to make those hot toddies....

for obvious reasons i am bringing the ghazal discussion over to this board

book mark this labour of love Frances Pritchett Page

lots here to explore for you but more pertinent to ghazals click on A Desertful of Roses and begin a passionate journey:)

digression: the beauty of ghazals is in its unique ness - a complete thought is expressed in two lines - and it could be on any subject from the mundane to the mystic, from pedestrian to esoteric - all with manifold nuances and layers

ghalib also wrote in persian - there is a selection of his persian ghazal with translation by ralph russell

while i have read that the urdu kalaam (the urdu poetry) has held me in its spell
