I have passed on the suggestion to get a paypal site. Secondly, they need research to be done on her condition, and the hospital in Washington is apparently the only place where this is done. Since it is likely to be a series of surgeries, they would have little or no support of their friends and family around them for a long time.. until the surgeries were completed and she is healed enough to go home. That is a really long time to go without a support system in an unfamiliar country.
