Movie Review: Life in a Metro - Confu-city?
Gauri Warudi
What an amply confusing film!
Anurag Basu makes a desperate attempt to tell different stories and an even more desperate attempt at laboriously interweaving these lives and stories.
The story is not at all new, in fact there is no story really. I'd rather say situations seemed contrived and there appeared to be quite a few holes in the screenplay; though to give him his due, editing is slick and the montages were great! Juxtaposing the band with different situations and merging music with them was a brilliant attempt. That way we didn't have to waste time watching characters go through an entire song doing nothing much!
What foxed me is: is life in the Metro just this - affairs, clandestine meetings, cheating, unhappy marriages, and well.....I'm at a loss for words.
Oh God, that gay guy (Konkona's supposed boy friend!) with his boss. Poor Konkona; a repeat from her Page 3 days?
Irrfan Khan steals the limelight from under everyone's noses, if that's possible. Konkona is good and so is Shilpa. Shiney and Kangana can be given a pass. KK is my all time fave so I'm partial to him.
Dharmendra and Nafisa Sodhi! Well, the less said the better. The poignancy that should've been in such a mature relationship was missing, honestly. It was more awkwardness rather than a sensitive relationship.
Definitely Murder and Gangster were better efforts of Basu's. I wouldn't give Metro more than 2.5 on 5

well i read your review, reading the review I thought its just another personal opinion,'' Gauri Warudi, has been a freelance journalist and script writer for over 16 years'' reading this I was surprised not because you have written good review but its a very poor attempt,I very much doubt your writing skills, no offence - it's not personal,I think you have comletely lost the point here. Not that every person as extra marital affairs or it's about cheating,Director Basu as chosen a theme,so the focus was on that issue,if he had chosen to say multiple things than it would be confusing,I think what I make out of your review is that probably ur confused yourself ( I'm not sure whether its your personality or the subject of the film that director deals with) Basu should be given full credit along with camerman and editing( there were few minor glitches, but thats ok), I have seen the movie, its worth a watch, baring Maniratnam's Guru ( I'm a fan of Mani sir, so I don't want to compare,Guru is in a different league for me) I thought this film is one of the best in recent years in bollywood.Surprisinly Shilpa Shetty as done good acting,I love Irfan Khan in this movie he is brilliant, well supported by other cast members, editing is brilliant baring few minor glitches, photography is good( other theme of this movie is the rain,Mumbai looks beautiful in this movie),background music was apt apart some jarring guitar and vocals at some moments.Watch this movie, its worth it.I'm not exaggerating but its true it is 10 times better than Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna ( u don't need huge stars, designer clothes and u don't have to go to New York)
