Rakhi Sawant, Entertainment At Its Best
Sakshi Juneja
Last night I watched in awe as apni Bigg Boss's Queen Rakhi Sawant chatted up Karan Johar over Koffee. I am sure many of you reading this post did so too and so did tons of other Sawant fans.
In spite of being an admirer of the controversial item girl, I had pre-decided that I would watch this particular episode from a neutral point of view - If I found her act to be overly pretentious rather than her being herself, my review would rip her to shreds. After all, no fan likes to feel cheated and neither do I.
So what did I think of Ms. Sawant's tête-à-tête with an A-list Bollywood celebrity on one of the most popular talk shows on Indian Television? With a sincere heart, I have to say it was bloody mind blowing and she was truly fantastic.
By all means it was The Best episode ever featured on Koffee With Karan. A room filled with housewives, their husbands and in-laws - all cheering, nodding in agreement, sympathetic when needed and laughing uncontrollably, in a span of 60 minutes, is the perfect example of how impressive Rakhi Sawant is.
The lady was her usual drama-self adding her trademark jhatkas, the matkas and even a gaana. She spoke with all honesty about preferring to converse in Hindi and not English, experience in the Bigg Boss house where she was nicknamed 'Sawant Laundry', how a reality show changed all the negatives in her life to positives and all those family members who had previously disowned her cause of her profession, today proudly beating their chests over her popularity.
With equal frankness she talked about her struggling phase in Bollywood including being a victim of the casting couch, her relationship with C grade actor Abhishek Awasthi, her preference for live-in relationship over marriage and the plastic reality of body enhancements in the Hindi film industry: "Joh bhagwan nahi deta woh doctor deta hai".
Behind this bold, glamorized exterior, lies a woman who was forced to grow up and take charge at an age when most of us are busy relishing our teenage years. She was barely 12 when her father walked out on her family; she was then handed the responsibility of not only feeding herself but also her younger siblings along with their mother.
She gave up education, her innocence and her youth, everything to fulfill her family duties - and all she got in return was constant nagging from her mother, abuses from her father and ridicule by the media. But frankly speaking, in practicality how many of us would have survived in a situation like hers? Barely a handful, me thinks.
Glimpses of her gullibility could be seen every time she thanked Karan for inviting her on the show, as if it were an announcement of her grand arrival on the Bollywood scene. On the joy of wearing a Manish Malhotra creation, something according to her only the women of high-society can afford to.
On the topic of Mika Singh and the kissing controversy, she appeared restrained but very composed. For her, the man and the incident are long done with but it seems the other party continues to be hell-bent on deriving whatever publicity he can from it - "Puppie ki kamaee kha raha hai woh" is what she said. And I can't help but agree with her.
But what completely took me by surprise was Sawant's brilliant sense of humor, which was the prime source of amusement throughout the show and was at its best during the Rapid Fire round. When asked by a random viewer, if she was lost in a deserted island, which 3 men would she take with her and what would she do with each of them, with pouting lips she replied, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrthik Roshan and John Abraham
Cheekily she added whether she really had to specify as to what she would like to do with them. She threw a fantastic bouncer when asked what she would do if handed the charge of the Indian cricket team - "Mere hisabh mein cricketer's ki biwiyan unke sath tour par jana chahiye. Woh jayengi toh phir yeh log cricket ground par theek se khelenge aur doosoron ki biwiyoun ke saat nahi flirt karenge".
Excellent point, right?
Her daring attitude was evident when she choose Sanjay Leela Bhansali over Kjo as her favorite director and was gutsy enough to rate Shah Rukh Khan '5' on a scale of 10 on the sexiness factor, that too on Karan Johar's face.
In the last 20 minutes or so, she was joined by her ex-house mates, Carol Gracious and Rahul Roy, which I thought was so not necessary cause Rakhi already had the house on fire all by herself.
Carol appeared genuine in her praises for Sawant girl but something tells me it's all nothing but a sham. Rahul was the same dud and boring self as always. As for the host, I have to rate Karan a 10 on 10. Not only was he looking a complete dude in a casual attire, he went on with his job with utmost honesty. Not only did he treat her with respect but in a true gentlemen fashion, offered an apology for mocking at her and her image on previous occasions.
On the whole this episode showcased the item girl as an ultimate mascot of entertainment. And as someone rightly said, "Apne desh mein Rakhi Sawant, ek eklauta model hai".

She looks like Bipasha in that shot. I really don't care for this tabloid articles. Do we really need to be leering at entertainers like British rags or Hollywood gossips?
Maybe if we can chase her like paparazzi, until her fleeing car slams into something, then we'll feel gleeful.
It's pathetic to see that before India has acquired a mass-transit system, or above 80% child literacy, or defeated malnutrition, we have first proudly developed a talent for lurid voyeuristic journalism, like Sakshi Juneja. The Pride of India.
Bollywood escapism sinks to new depths, via "reality" TV.
Oh, let's all take a brief bathroom break from ogling Rakhi, and quickly dash over to give our empathetic comments on the movie Parzania, since we're also moonlighting as moralists here on DesiCrackpots.com

I m truely impressed by ur write up... i m also fan of rakhi
She is the only actress who does not hide her body job by doctor, her affairs and issues.
Some say its for publicity... i perceive it as honestly!
