DesiGirl, Yep got it, the autobiographical bit as the story is doused with some old memories...But my trivia is yet unanswered :) Now the final and last Dial-A-Friend as SRK says in KBC. Hint is connect "The Constant Companion" and "India".

Tanay: Thank you, thank you :) Well it has the odd autobiographical bits to it. S said he couldn't believe I even put my first crush into it! It also has my deepest (and yet unfulfilled) desire of setting up my folks comfortably so my dad needn't run around like a headless chicken. What's that they say ? If wishes were horses... DesiGirl, wonderfully told with simple descriptions, appealing minor characters and interesting insights from the past to the present [ Year 1 till the time she leaves her family ] all seen through the tangle of branches, roots and trunks of a tree. Lovely !!!! Now, guess this trivia, your story has a very very precious piece of information, what's that ?

And when Anita came back from USA after five long years she was dismayed to find a gated community instead of her banyan tree...ahem!!! Don't beat me up DG;) A year back one of our neighbor's banyan tree fell and the damn root was so long that it ripped through one of our boundary walls. Your story reminded me of another incident where a gentleman tried to convince us to plant a maple tree but we realized that the roots of the tree could eat into the foundation of the house. The road to hell is paved with good intentions

thats lovely, DG. I had a special tree too but lightning struck and it crashed into one of the bedrooms and lives no more :(
