Was good to read about your experience. The reason I turned away the unwanted guest was precisely because I didn't want to smoulder with resentment for days after the visit the way people usually do. Within a few minutes of this visitor having gone away I felt unmentionable relief tinged with a feeling of regret that I could have handled the situation better. For the record, we are still on speaking terms. I just got an SMS from my friend asking if I would like to adopt "two sweet cats" which someone she knows is trying to give away. (The answer is NO).
