Interesting. His music does has a level of complexity that&#039;s really pleasing to the ear. Sort of an optimal balance between order and variety. But it&#039;s not just that. We can easily recognize order, but distinguishing variety from disorder is a little trickier (which is why I have a hard time with jazz). Rahman&#039;s music has its surprises, but is not so surprising that it confuses or bores. Sounds like damning with faint praise, I know, but it isn&#039;t.

Cross-over appeal is a fascinating topic.
