I am totally against applying the rules of the Geneva Convention towards those who neither acknowledge it nor are signatories to it. The purpose of the Geneva Convention is that one should treat enemy prisoners of war the same way that one would desire one's own people to be treated should they be taken prisoner. But because jihadis are not a govt (IE. THEY ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE IN ANY WAY) there isn't any chance of them abiding by any rules of war, particularly the Geneva Convention. Therefore, they should not be accorded any humanity that they will not show to others. Sorry, but if you want to be treated humanely, then treat others humanely. If you want others to abide by traditional conventions of war, then make sure to also abide by conventions of war. You can't have your cake and eat it too -- although the Taliban apologists would obviously wish to.
