Narmada Dam Controversy: Aamir Khan Threatened by Politicians

The story so far: Medha Patkar was on a hunger strike. She is still protesting against the government in the ongoing Narmada Bachao Aandolan.

What is this stuff? In simple terms, this began I guess about 10 years ago, when the government decided to build a huge dam in Gujarat. Medha Patkar came into the limelight when she protested.

Her reason for protesting? Thousands of villagers were uprooted from their homes because of the dam. The government said they offered help and assisted villagers in settling elsewhere.

Now ten years later, the government wants to raise the height of the dam. Technically, this means more land will be needed to store the additional water as a result of raising the height.

It also means that certain aspects have not been brought out in the open.

Fact 1) More villages will be wiped out. The government wants to "relocate" more villagers; and

Fact 2) A dam as big as this still does not have any channels. It means the dam is being used to contain water and contain water and contain water. But channels in the dam will help to take this stored water to where it can be streamed for constructive purposes. Arundhati Roy (yeah the Booker prize winner from India) is of the opinion that the dam height may not need an increase if proper channels are built and brought to use to distribute the stored water.

So where does Aamir Khan come into the picture?

Aamir visited Medha Patkar's campaign in Delhi. Notice he did not make ANY statement for or against ANY POLITICAL PARTY. All he asked was that the government meet the protesters (which the great dictators rarely do as this means blocking the cash flowing into their pockets).

So what happened?

Apparently some of the factions in the great dictatorship - who are currently out of power, are very, very upset. They have pulled down the movie posters of Aamir Khan and have stalled the screening of his movie Rang De Basanti all over the state of Gujarat.

Fantastic show of democratic rights. Absolutely fantastic. Yes. Let's show the people of India that the fucking bastards should not dare to raise their voices in protest against the great dictators of India, for even the celebrities are not spared. You the cockroaches living in India have to put your heads down, kneel and lick the spit of the living dictators and their goonies.

And no it doesn't end here. Political parties now are privately threatening and bullying Aamir Khan.

Why? Come on. How dare he speak against the United Dictatorship of India. How dare he?

Unless we are put in our right place, how else will we ever succeed and prosper? And the political parties involved in earning sacred money to fill their coffers cannot bear to see a celebrity raising his voice to awaken mere cockroaches like us. How dare he?

Apparently one of their leaders is on a "Rath yatra" to bring in "Ram Rajya". Fantastic. Ram Rajya means uprooting people from their homes. Ram Rajya means threatening those who go against them. Ram Rajya means it's "My way or the Highway". Ram Rajya in the 21st century means absolute dictatorship. Thank you for spreading the awareness of Ram Rajya O Dictators of India. Thank you.

Long Live The Great Dictatorship of India.

Vande Mantaram.

Perhaps your definition of Ram Rajya is holding the thirsty people of four states hostage by going on hungerstrikes with a bunch of publicity hunters? On threatening people willing to relocate peacefully? Oh yes, it is speaking on topics u don't know about to generate some more free publicity.

Irrespective of whether Amir Khan is absolutely correct in his stand or not, he does have a right to raise his voice supporting an issue and that right cannot be denied to him by forcibly stopping his films from playing in the theatres.

If Modi's partymen think that Amir is talking nonsense, then what is stopping them from calling his bluff through the democratic procedures?

By the way, enjoyed Modi's bashing of the Aajtak journalists in the yesterday's show.
"You speak without having one little bit of a knowledge about the Narmada issue and you call yourself a 'tez' channel?"
Gotta love that :D

Everybody has his/her own way in a democracy. If Aamir has his say then Modi can eat any hay.
Long Live India!!
