Paris Hilton Shortlisted for Mother Teresa role
Aaman Lamba
Since we are past the first of April, this must be taken seriously. Malayalam film-maker T Rajeevnath, who won the National Film Award for Janani in 1988, has shortlisted Paris Hilton to play the role of the 'Saint of the Gutters' in a film scheduled to begin filming in 2007.
He will travel to the US from Asia armed with photos of the American socialite that have been altered to make her look like the saintly nun, who died in 1997.
He said, "The pictures will be my strength when I speak to Paris. She has expressed delight that I have short-listed her to play the role. This will make our meeting easier.". He was apparently impressed when he read that Paris had refused to pose nude in Playboy magazine and decided then to shortlist her.
His most recent film was Moksham, which dealt with matters of salvation and terrorism. He is currently making a documentary on the Indian diaspora in the United States, which features interviews with Salman Rushdie, M Night Shyamalan, and Condoleeza Rice, among others.
IANS reports,
"All those whom I have contacted have agreed to do their bit to help me in this film. The cast includes Mithun Chakravarthy, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal and several others. Veteran cameraman Santosh Sivan has also been roped in. The Ramoji Rao Film city has pledged full support for the venture," added the veteran director.Among the specialties of the film would be the character of former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu, whose association with Mother Teresa is well known.
"The proceeds of the film would go to the Missionaries of Charity. By June this year, the groundwork for the film would be complete and I propose to begin shooting in early 2007," said the director.
Paris Hilton is heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune, and is often in the news. Her confident attitude and self-promotion skills are legendary, although one cannot say the same about her acting. Her cellphone was hacked last year, and a salacious tape made its way onto the Internet. She said once, perhaps tongue-in-chic, ""Every woman should have four pets in her life. A mink in her closet, a jaguar in her garage, a tiger in her bed, and a jackass who pays for everything."

A sexy, promiscuous Mother Theresa? There go all my hot Hilton fantasies
Aaman is this a belated prank post or has the director seriously lost his marbles?

The mind boggles. A slut playing a saint. Well, well ... who knows, maybe she'll have a religious whatever & become a nun herself. Stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Did he find out the reason behind that? Maybe lesser remuneration? or less show of skin than she wanted.

Nothing naive about that Indian -- the guy knows how to make a movie that will sell. After all, he is making a movie of a person who was the master of marketing and selling. She marketed the miserable well enough to pretty much make hundreds of millions for the Vatican, putting herself on the sainthood track. Teresa was good, an absolutel genius. A person without mercy, she sold the image to the world that she is the absolute best. More about Teresa the Merciless here on my blog and here at my website.

So Atanu, basically, Paris will fit right into the role, you think?

Well, Atanu and I agree on one thing - this guy knows what he's doing. when a woman gets so famous for doing absolutely zilch that even malayalam film directors get to hear about her daily life, you know thats a woman you want to have in your flick. i wouldnt pay to see this in the theaters but i would rent it for a party with lots of friends and lots of alcohol. fun times...

Aaman, I am not familiar with the Paris Hilton's body (sic) of work but I guess this Rajeevnath guy knows a good thing when he sees it. Imagine the publicity -- a slut playing the role of a "saint". I guess some of the halo-ed devotees of "Saint" Teresa would go on a rampage about a slut playing the "Saint" and voila! "Free Publicity City" here I come. Some would be curious to see the movie not because of the "saint" but because of the great story of a sinner playing the saint.
Yessir, the guy is not your village idiot.

He said, "The pictures will be my strength when I speak to Paris."
What strength is he talking about ?
He was apparently impressed when he read that Paris had refused to pose nude in Playboy magazine
What about almost nude, which she is quite often photographed being ?

Just of curiousity because my command of the english language is tenuous at best, but this sentence here:
I am not familiar with the Paris Hilton's body (sic) of work but I guess this Rajeevnath guy knows a good thing when he sees it.
Shouldn't it have been:
I am not familiar with the Paris Hilton's body (pun intended/no pun intended) of work but I guess this Rajeevnath guy knows a good thing when he sees it.

The issue here is not the English language, Aaman's article is very clear. We need the full exposure of all hidden information regarding MT in the open.

DrPolitics: You are getting me wrong here - please re-read my comment and see if you find anything about MT per se. I was just commenting that isn't the second construct more close to what Atanu is saying there.
Or maybe you are pulling my leg?

Vikas, by adding "(sic)" to "... Paris Hilton's body..." I indicate to the reader that I want to draw his or her attention to the word. Note that later in the sentence I write " ... knows a good thing when he sees it." The same idea at play. Anyway, all this is very tedious and somewhat akin to trying to explain a joke. The joke may be funny but explanation is not funny.
The "pun intended" bit can be overused, and can be insulting to the reader as well. In most cases I think it is overused. The reader should have the intelligence to figure out whether there is a pun and if the pun was intentional or not.
Here endth the lesson.

Atanu:
*[sic] or (sic) (from Latin sic for "thus"; see also list of Latin phrases) is a bracketed expression used to indicate that an unusual spelling, phrase, or any other preceding quoted material is intended to be read or printed exactly as shown (rather than being an error) and should not be corrected. ...
Lessons Learnt
1. Thou has used the word sic incorrectly for what thou intended - period.
2. Thou speaketh too much and thou listenth too little.
3. Thou gives out too many lessons but thou learns too little.
4. Thou needs a PhD in humbleness - but this time probably from Bareilley rather then B'kley.
5. Thou is insufferable with a huge chip on thou's shoulders. Possibly thou has taken the best blog award too seriously and thou is out to reform all fools. Thou should realize that charity begins at home.
