BasantiAamir Khan's new film Rang De Basanti is seeing varied reactions. While no one has yet asked the classic question from Sholay, "Tera naam kya hai, Basanti?", people love the film, hate it, and can't get enough. Translations of the title vary from "Color Me Yellow" to "The Colors Of Spring"

Is it representative of Indian society? Does it smack of Orientalism? Is it better than Aks? Will medical students be inspired to put down their scalpels and pick up a gun? Desicritics examine the film and the themes.

Movie Review: Rang De Basanti

- Shravan Sampath reviews the film and feels it stirs his conscience like few movies do. He finds the music fits the theme well, and that the film blurs the line between the past and the present.

Rang De Basanti - Inquilab Zindabad! - Well, The Rebel Has Arrived

- The ComicProject believes the film reflects the state of the Indian nation in a crude but effective way. He says, "If the first part of the movie is about the matter-of-factly, irreverent and cool: "Well, the rebel has arrived", the second part of the movie is an angry, helpless but passionate "Inquilab Zindabad".

Movie Review: Rang De Basanti Sucks!

- Suyog takes an opposing position on the film, and doesn't mince words in an open letter to the director, feeling he learnt little from his previous film, Aks. He feels the narrative is flawed, the theme sucks and the characters are stereotypical.

Movie Review: Rang De Basanti - Watch The Film

- Vivek Sharma feels it's a film worth watching, that it's a movie with a heart. A movie that will make you laugh a lot and allow you a tear or two. A movie with excellent music and great cinematography.

Movie Review: Rang De Basanti

- Aditya Kuber felt RDB was ...a movie you should watch. Great characters, terrific music, slick and a strong concept. Something didn't quite sit well with him, though.

What's Thy Name, Basanti?

- aNTi finally asked the million-rupee question, comparing RDB to the OTHER Basanti film, with an opinion perhaps at odds with the zeitgeist that he highlights.

Rang De Basanti - An Open Letter To Rakeysh Mehra

- Film Director Manan Singh Katohora writes an impassioned letter to Rakeysh Mehra, saying, "This movie should be shown to every kid, every young soul in India. Thank you Sir for giving us hope, with this classic."

With those rather polar reactions, i really can't wait to see this movie. It's going to take a while to come here, to Doha. Till then I'll just enjoy AR Rehman's great music...
